For KAPOW, we will be working with the Nikon ZR, in collaboration with Nikon, as the film's Official Camera Partner.
KAPOW is built around physical proximity — tight boxing gyms, handheld movement, close-quarter work, and long takes where the camera needs to stay reactive and unobtrusive. From a cinematography standpoint, the choice of camera is not about branding, but about control, flexibility, and integration within a professional workflow.
The Nikon ZR will be used alongside our RED setup and integrated into a DaVinci Resolve Studio pipeline. Our approach is to treat it as a true cinema tool: paired with PL-mounted cine lenses, configured through a controlled color workflow, and tested for consistency in mixed and unpredictable lighting conditions typical of real training spaces.
In the coming weeks, we will conduct dedicated camera tests as part of our regular pre-production process. These tests will allow us to evaluate the sensor's limits, refine our color workflow, and determine the most effective way to rig and operate the camera in line with the shooting style we are aiming for.

KAPOW
Synopsis
KAPOW follows Bruno, a talented young boxer whose passion for boxing collides with the brutality of his home life. In the gym, his coach teaches him rhythm, discipline, and control. At home, that fragile balance is constantly shattered by the abuse of his stepfather.
Caught between these two opposing worlds, Bruno becomes trapped in a growing conflict between the urge to fight back and the fear of losing control. As the pressure builds, his anger slowly reaches a breaking point, forcing him to choose between unleashing his violence or learning to master it.
KAPOW hits like a punch to the gut. A raw, suffocating story.

KAPOW Cinematography
Black & White neorealist short film with harsh contrasts and human honesty, inspired by Sebastião Salgado, using low-key lighting to let darkness shape the scene.
The cinematography of KAPOW is intimate, raw, and stripped down to its essentials. The film will be shot in high-contrast black and white, where light and shadow become emotional forces locked in constant tension. The absence of color removes distractions, focusing the viewer entirely on Bruno, his solitude, and his inner struggle.

Outside the ring, silence becomes a presence of its own — suffocating and oppressive within the hostile environment of his home, yet capable of transforming into a moment of clarity and release when Bruno connects with his inner strength.
